Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions Gor Mahia have confirmed the signing of left-back Levin Odhiambo.
Odhiambo has joined K’Ogalo from Tusker FC where he opted against extending his contract which ended on March 31.
The brewers had been seeking to extend Odhiambo’s stay in Ruaraka but Gor Mahia had already made their interest known and the player decided to run down his deal and leave as a free agent.
“Welcome Levin Odhiambo,” Gor Mahia announced through their social media handles, alongside images of the player signing his contract while clad in the club’s green jersey.
The left-back, who can also play as a winger, was the subject of a tussle between Tusker and Gor Mahia during the mid-season transfer window.
Johnathan McKinstry’s men wanted to sign him in January, two months before his deal expired, but Tusker asked for a big transfer fee in an effort to fend off the interest in the hope that he would agree a new deal at the club.
It turned out that the player had already made up his mind and bid his time before ditching them for K’Ogalo.
The former Wazito and Mathare United player then fell down the pecking order as coach Robert Matano started preparing for life without him and he will now link up with his former team-mate Rooney Onyango at Gor Mahia.
His arrival adds competition to the Gor Mahia left-back position which has seen Geoffrey ‘Simiti’ Ochieng as the first choice with Philemon Otieno deputising him in some matches and it will be interesting to see how McKinstry juggles his options.
