Record Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions Gor Mahia have once again enlisted the services of the seasoned Jolawi Obondo as their team manager.
Obondo’s return follows a 15-month period of uncertainty marked by a forced leave in September 2022 amid speculations about his potential departure from the club.
Victor Nyaoro assumed the position of team manager during Obondo’s absence, guiding the team until the Christmas break in 2023.
However, Nyaoro’s future with the club remains uncertain as Gor Mahia’s leadership reshuffles key positions.
Obondo’s previous departure was surrounded by controversy, with reports linking him to the go-slows and player strikes that had plagued the club in previous seasons.
Despite the challenges, Obondo, a loyal servant to the club for the past two decades, has been reinstated, showcasing the faith the management has in his ability to navigate the team through both triumphs and tribulations.
Gor Mahia Chairman at the time, Ambroise Rachier, shed light on Obondo’s temporary departure, stating that the veteran had been reassigned to the club’s secretariat.
A source at the club reflected on the reappointment stating, “Jolawi Obondo has been an integral part of Gor Mahia for the past twenty years. His return as the team manager reaffirms our confidence in his ability to contribute significantly to the success of the club, both on and off the field.”
As Gor Mahia gears up to face Posta Rangers in a crucial FKF Premier League clash on Sunday, the stakes are high.
A victory on Sunday would not only extend Gor Mahia’s impressive 16-game unbeaten streak but also open an eight-point gap on Posta Rangers, who currently hold the second spot in the league standings.
Conversely, a loss would narrow the gap to just two points, intensifying the competition for the top spot.
