Gor coach Jonathan McKinstry is confident ahead of their game against Tusker FC on Wednesday 8th February 2023 at Moi International Sorts Center – Kasarani. McKinstry has pointed out that Tusker are a wounded animal who poses a lot of danger to his young K’Ogalo team if not approached with caution.
“The guys are going into the game ready and confident that we can put in another top performance. We know Tusker will be an incredibly difficult opponent…obviously, reigning champions and are the team that have taken the top spot of Gor in recent years. So we need to be at our best,” the North Irishman said.
God Mahia won 1-0 against Nairobi City Stars in their last FKF Premier League last match with Benson Omalla’s solitary goal and are upbeat to battle it out with current defending champions,
But Tusker FC tactician Robert Matano says they will not be afraid of record Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia when the two sides clash in a top-tier match at the Moi Stadium, Kasarani on Wednesday.
The Brewers are currently on something of a dry spell, having scored only one goal in two matches – a 1-1 draw against Kariobangi Sharks over the weekend.
“Gor Mahia are a very good team but we are the defending champions, as well. There is nothing to fear…there is nothing special. It is just a fixture. The goodness is that they (Gor) are on a good run and that is motivation for us to try and catch up to them. It will be tough but we will manage the game,” Matano said.
Tusker currently lie fourth on the log with 25 points, two behind Wednesday’s opponents who are placed second with 27 points – one behind leaders Nzoia Sugar.
With games flying thick and fast, McKinstry says they will have to manage their players wisely to avoid the danger of burnout and injuries.
“It has obviously been a tough run of games recently. We have had a good record…losing only one game so far. The guys have done well in training. I think we have done well in terms of ensuring that the freshness is there so that we try to limit the fatigue. It is not easy playing two games per week,” he said.
