SDT rules in favor of Gor on abandoned match against Vihiga in February

Gor Mahia has been awarded the abandoned match against Vihiga United on 13th February 2022.  This is after Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) reversed the FKF Caretaker Committee’s decision to award Vihiga Bullets FC.

The match was called off due to insecurity following the chaos that erupted at the half break. K’Ogalo was leading 1-0 at halftime, goal courtesy of George “Blackberry” Odhiambo.

After a review of the match commissioner’s report, the Caretaker Committee awarded the match to Vihiga Bullets, and further sanctioned Gor Mahia with a two-match empty stadium ban, forcing K’ogalo to file an appeal. SDT agreed with Gor Mahia, citing Vihiga Bullets for abandoning the game.

“Clearly, there was no reason for the respondent to not resume play even after the security breaches had been contained. The respondent (Vihiga Bullets FC) is responsible for abandoning the match, and shall forfeit the match as per the rules and regulations governing football 2019.” A statement by the SDT reads.

SDT has now ordered that Gor Mahia be awarded the match on a 2-0 basis with the FKF directed to comply with the orders.

The extra three points will however not change Gor Mahia’s third-place finish in the 2021/22 FKFPL season despite taking their points tally to 61, four points shy of second-placed Kakamega Homeboyz.
