Media Watch: Macharia thirsting for maiden league glory during with Gor Mahia

Creative midfielder John Macharia is hoping to lift his first ever Kenya Premier League title during his time at record champions Gor Mahia.

Ahead of the new 2022/2023 Football Kenya Federation Premier League that is scheduled to kick off on 27 August, the dreadlocked midfielder revealed that his main dream in Kenyan football remains being crowned as a league winner which he hopes to achieve at the home of the 19-time champions.

Despite joining Gor Mahia back in August 2020 from Georgian side FC Saburtalo, the former Thika United player has not come close to fighting for the title as K’Ogalo finished 8th and 3rd in the last two seasons the player has been with the team, a situation Macharia hopes will change in his third campaign.

“I have never won a league title in my career and that remains to be my biggest dream in local football. I have won the FKF Cup in the 2020/2021 season but clinching the league title remains to be my ultimate goal. It is something I want to do and hopefully, we will be able to do it this season,” the player told Mozzart Sport.

Macharia, who lifted the FKF Cup in the 2020/2021 season as Gor Mahia defeated AFC Leopards in the final to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup, backed his side to end their two-year drought in the new campaign especially after landing a new club sponsor and appointing Northern Irishman Jonathan McKinstry as their new head coach.

“So far, our house is in order. The new coach has come in with really interesting ideas and everyone is committed to getting us back on top. We had rough spells in the past but, hopefully, we are ready to go back to where we belong this season,” he said.
