“Apart from covid which affected everyone else something unique affected us as a club in the sense that we were banned from recruiting new players, and as you see quite a number of our players are from our junior team, that is quite commendable that we became number three,” said Rachier.

The club is serving a transfer ban that is set to in January 2023, with the young players being the core of the team during the turbulent season that it has gone through.

Some of the youth players who took advantage of the ban and prove to the club what they are capable of include defender Onyango Joshua who cemented his place in the starting lineup, Nyawir John was not a starter, however, the central midfielder always gave his best for the team whenever called up to bolt up the midfield.

Rachier reassured fans and sponsors that Gor Mahia will go back to being on top of Kenyan football at the end of the next season, for the last six seasons the club has not finished below the second spot.

“We are content at number three and we want to assure you, our sponsors that we are going to perform well, and come of the coming season we should again go our usual base as you know we have won the league 19 times, no other team has more titles than us,” said Rachier while speaking at the launch.
