Media Watch: We are monitoring talent at Gor Mahia youth team, Andreas Spier

Gor Mahia head coach Andreas Spier says he is monitoring some players in the club’s youth with the aim of promoting them to the senior side.

Gor’s youth team currently plays in the Division One league. The team consists of some of the best young players in the country and over the years, other FKF Premier League clubs have been raiding the team for good players.

The team has started its Division One campaign slowly, picking three straight draws against Kangemi All-Stars, Zetech Titans, and Avena FC. Spier watched the team take on Avena on Saturday at NITA Grounds in Kitengela.

In an interview, the tactician was full of praise for the team. He added that there are around four players in the youth side capable of turning out for the senior team in the near future and wants to monitor them closely both in training and in matches.

“There are very talented players in this squad and we have been monitoring them. There are three or four of them who have the potential to play for the first team in the near future and we are assessing them in training as you can see we are also watching their matches to see how they are performing, how they are fighting and how they are trying to play good football,” he told Mozzart Sport.

The tactician added that they want to end the trend of losing youth team players to other teams. Some popular graduates from the team include Amos Nondi who plays in Georgia and AFC Leopards winger Cliff Nyakeya.

“We want to keep them, we need to retain our best players and ensure that there is that transition to the first team,” added.

The team is currently serving a transfer ban imposed on them by FIFA.
