Gor Mahia FC has been thrown into a deep morning after the demise of one of their legends Mr. Pius Wamaya “Apuoyo” who died on Friday 18th February 2022.
Pius was among the players who helped the club clinch the Kenya Premier League titles both in 1993 and 1995.
His name Apuoyo came about because of his agility and high speed on the pitch which always sent the opponents’ teams the wrong way whenever he held the ball.
Apuoyo was one of the legends and even referred to him as a foot soldier.
Some of the players he shared the pitch with during his heydays are Paul Ochieng, Zedekiah Otieno, Mike Otieno, and Tom Ochieng.
According to one of his close relatives, Mr. Wamaya was hailing from cancer until his death.
This sad news comes at a time when K’Ogalo is marking its 54th anniversary since its formation in 1968. The club has since proved to be the most successful club in East and Central Africa by winning many league titles and even the continental and the regional titles.
It can be remembered that in 1987 Gor made the nation proud by beating all the African football giants to lift and bring home the Nelson Mandela Cup.
