Kenya all-time champions Gor Mahia humiliated their opponent Kariobangi Sharks in a midweek FKF Premier League match played at Moi International Sports Center – Kasarani during lunchtime.
Benson Omalla was on the target in the 12th minute of the game while Peter Lwasa wrapped up the game in the 83rd minute.
Coming into the match on a win deficit from their last three games (2 loses in FKF PL and a win in Betway Cup finals), K’Ogalo were much more energized and had strategized on how to dismantle the Sharks’ ever attacking power.
Stung into action by the early goal, Sharks got out of their shells as they went in search of the equalizer as soon as possible. Just ten minutes after going down, but their attempts were consistently thwarted by a well-organized K’Ogalo defense headed by Captain Haron Shakava.
Skeptical with one goal lead and the danger it had, K’Ogalo began to hunt for the second goal with countless attempts but were unlucky in the first half.
While Sharks were in desperate search of finding an equalizer, Gor were growing patient and looking to hit on the counter after introducing speedy Boniface Omondi for Samuel Onyango in the 63rd minute. That decision almost paid off as a long ball set Omalla free upfront. The young striker coolly dinked the ball over the goalkeeper but to his disappointment, the goal was ruled out for offside.
With ten minutes left on the clock, old boy Lwasa came back to haunt his charges as he capitalized on a goalkeeping error from Obiero who was in a hurry to launch a counter. After a botched pass, Lwasa picked the ball and fired straight into the back of the net to confirm the three points for Gor.
K’Ogalo now has 9 points after playing three games, the same as the division’s leaders Nairobi City Stars, and two other teams.
