Former Gor Mahia coach Hassan Oktay is set to make a return to Africa to handle Botswana giants Township Rollers.
Oktay, remembered for taking Gor Mahia to the quarter finals of the CAF Confederation Cup three years ago has agreed to take over the coaching role at Township Rollers FC who are rebuilding ahead of the new season.
Oktay, is a Turkish-born UK resident.
Township Rollers said they had held talks with Oktay and the two parties made contractual agreements.
“We can confirm that we have held talks with Hassan Oktay and agreed to contract him as our head coach,” the club stated in their website.
Oktayis an ex professional player, with 25 years experience coaching across the world, with extensive stints in Europe, Asia and Africa, working closely with squads to improve and progress teams and individual players.
Hassan is renowned for exceptional coaching, man management and player development skills to build teams capable of progressing to a higher level.
The club said: “We have learnt that Hassan incorporates strength; conditioning and fitness into training sessions to make sure optimal status of players are of the standard needed in professional football.”
Oktay who holds a UEFA A License as well as other qualifications from the English FA, last coached competitively for Gor Mahia during the 2018/2019 season, in Kenya where he won the League and was Coach of the Year. He took Gor Mahia to the Group Stages of the CAF Inter Club Competitions.
Since then, he has been working with Academies in the UK.
Rollers are in the process of rebuilding the team. They have injected young blood in their squad with the signing of 23-year old Lobopo Moremi from rivals Gaborone United.At Rollers Lobopo will compete for places against the likes of Tlhalefo Molebatsi. Kutlwelo Mpolokang (27) is another player, defensive midfielder, who has been signed by the Blues.
