There is no doubt Gor Mahia still dominates the derby scene even at their low point in the season. This is after beating their arch-rivals AFC Leopards once again in Betway Cup final played at Nyayo National Stadium – Nairobi this Sunday 4th July 2021.
The match went straight to penalty shoutouts after a barren draw in regular time. K’Ogalo goalkeeper Gad Mathews was a hero after saving the first 2 shots by “Ingwe” side narrowing the chances of the “Shemeji” to recover during the post-penalty shootouts.
KāOgalo will now represent the country in next seasonās Caf Confederation Cup. They also pocketed Sh2 million for their success.
Youngster Sydney Ochieng stepped up to score Gor Mahiaās first penalty and Mathews was to give KāOgalo the advantage when he saved Isaac Kipyegonās shot.
Kenneth Muguna then sent Leopards keeper Ezekiel Owade the wrong way before Said Tsumaās shot was parried by Mathews.

Clifton Miheso scored Gor Mahiaās third and while Washington Munene gave Ingwe some lifeline when he scored to make it 3-1, the match was done and dusted when Samuel Onyango scored the fourth to hand KāOgalo the title.
It was a sweet revenge for Gor Mahia who had lost to AFC Leopards by a solitary goal in the finals in 2013. Gor Mahia have now won the title 11 times, one more than Ingwe.
Gor Mahia coach Carlos Manual Vaz Pinto was elated with the victory, his first title with the club since taking over at the beginning of the season.
āWe deserved to win this competition. We have been consistent and today we played very well. I am happy for the boys and the fans,ā said Pinto
