The “Mashemeji Derby” looms. Who will have the braging right?

It is a face-off and the titanic battle ever wished to exist in Kenya football history. The two arch-rivals are meeting at Nyayo National Stadium this Sunday 4th July 2021 at exactly 3.00 pm in a Betway Cup final.

But the game is quirky this time around. Both teams failed to qualify for the CAF Champions League slot this season and are fighting to grab the remaining slot of the low-tier CAF championship – the CAF Confederation Cup.

The last time K’Ogalo won the cup was way back in 2012 but knocked out in the preliminary stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.

K’Ogalo has however enjoyed the continental champions league tournament since 2013 and only missed in one occasion (2016) when the current FKF Premier League champions Tusker FC took over.

Their all-time arch-rivals AFC Leopards have yawned to be back to the continental scene since 2014 and have vowed that it won’t go down easily against the all-time Kenyas Champions.

With the clock ticking toward the big event in Kenyan football history, the fans of both sides are combatively at each other with all sorts of banters they can remember.

Mayienga 2011 haka has re-emerged warning ‘Ingwe’ (AFC Leopards) how they will treat them during the Sunday match at Nyayo Stadium.

AFC Leopards on the other side are on ‘fire’ vowing to hang the mighty K’Ogalo this time around after losing all their encounters since 2016 with some memorable events of letting K’Ogalo clinch the KPL title after beating them at Moi International Sports Center Kasarani in 2018.

All eyes are at Nyayo Stadium tomorrow and a must-win of either team rejuvenates the norm of who has the bragging rights till the next contract.

Fans will not be allowed to attend the match venue due to COVID-19 epidemic regulations but will catch up on K24 TV station.
