Gor Mahia resume League campaign

FKF premier league resumes this week after two months stoppage following a presidential decree due to COVID-19 spread.

League defending champions Gor Mahia are set to meet Nairobi City Stars on Sunday 16th May 2021 at Moi International Sports Center Kasarani.

The team has been in training and are prepared to face the Kawangware side on Sunday evening encounter.

K’Ogalo captain Harun Shakava believes the team will try to get back to its form even though the suspension affected the club’s preparations. Players have been having an individual training session in a bid to keep fit before the resumption of the league.

“The break really affected the flow & momentum because we had started pushing hard & the team was gelling but I think as time rolls, we will get the momentum back,” Shakave said he said.

This will be the first time K’Ogalo will meet Nairobi City Stars after their promotion to Kenya’s top-tier league this season. But the Kawangware side has been a hardcore to break during their past encounters before they were relegated in 2016.

Their last encounter was on 24th July 2016 with Gor Mahia carrying the day with a 2-1 win after a much entertaining match played at Nyayo Stadium. Collins Okoth’s last-second strike gave the defending champions a deserved victory. Read more on Okoth strikes late winner against City Stars

Though in the seventh position on the Betking Premier League log with 22 points after 14 games, K’Ogalo head coach Manuel Carlos Vaz Pinto is optimistic they will turn the table around and will push harder to retain the title.

“Our last game was about 55 days ago. We are happy to be back but we look at the physical integrity of the players with apprehension. We go in search of dynamics and with a lot of commitment for victories,” Carlos said during an interview.

City stars will bank on former Gor Mahia striker Nicholas Kipkirui who moved to Nairobi City Stars in late March 2021.

The match kicks off at 1500hrs
