Gor Mahia assistant coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo says the virtual training program which they initiated for the playing unit after the ban on sports is not enough to accomplish their plan. According to Pamzo, training as a unit is much better as football is team sport.

Gor Mahia developed an app that allows the technical bench to monitor the playing unit’s individual sessions from the program given by the technical bench.

“Players are supposed to run at least five kilometers daily. Early in the morning and thereafter go to the gym. The gym sessions must be recorded are relayed live via our new app and this helps us know who is doing what,’’ said Omollo.

The former Kenyan international says since the suspension of sports is indefinite, ‘anything can happen’ and they have to be ready when called upon, noting that online training does not offer much value as physical training.

“When players are together it is easier to train them other than the current virtual training. Football is about playing together and the current situation in the country has put us in a mess. We need our boys back together so that we can strategize on how to approach the remainder of the season.’’

In the meantime, ‘Pamzo’ says the players are in low spirits as they are not getting enough of what is required.

“Some players who had form issues had started picking up very well. With the current situation, I think it is a big setback since we may need to go back to what we had already done to keep them on form. We are just longing for the big announcement of sports resumption so that we can continue from where we left,’’ asserted Pamzo.
