Former Gor Mahia defender and Posta Rangers Head Coach Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo has been appointed to stand in for the CAF Champions League campaign as the club sorts out the issue of the Head Coach Roberto Oliveira Goncalves.
Omollo began playing football in the local league, making his Kenyan Premier League debut for Kenya Breweries F.C. in 1990. In 1992, he joined rivals Gor Mahia F.C. for two seasons before returning to Kenya Breweries. Omollo helped Kenya Breweries reach the final of the 1994 African Cup Winners (Wikipedia)
Omollo’s appointment came after K’Ogalo Head Coach Roberto Oliveira was ‘disqualified’ by CAF due to lack of CAF A coaching required for the tournament.
Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier confirmed the appointment and stated that talks are underway with CAF regarding Oliveira’s situation.
“We have settled on Sammy Omollo to be our stand-in coach for the team in Rwanda as we try to sort out the current coach issue with CAF. Coach Omollo will lead the technical bench as Roberto is not allowed to be on the touchline until the issue is sorted,” said Rachier from the club’s official website.
Omollo will lead K’Ogalo in the first CAF CL campaign against APR of Rwanda scheduled for Saturday 28th November 2020 in Kigali.
