Gor Mahia left-back Shafiq Batambuze has been released by Gor Mahia ahead of the 2020-21 season.

The left-back penned a two-year contract with the reigning champions Gor Mahia FC in October 2018 picked a knee injury during a CAF Champions League against Aigle Noir of Burundi in November 2019, putting him out of action for a good period.

The injury forced him to return to his native Uganda to seek treatment after it emerged that Gor Mahia had refused to assist him financially to undergo a knee operation.

While in Uganda, Batambuze managed to undergo an operation after friends raised Sh400, 000 for him and he recently returned to training in readiness for the new season but has now been released by the club.

Other players who left the club include Lawrence Juma (Sofapaka FC), Joash Onyango (Simba SC, Tanzania), Wellington Ochieng (Tusker FC), Elvis Ronack (Nzoia Sugar FC), Kennedy Otieno (Western Stima FC), Boniface Omondi (Wazito FC), David Mapigano (Azam FC, Tanzania).
