Kipkirui’s header sinks Tusker in Machakos

Nicholas Kipkirui’s deft second half header was all Gor Mahia needed to sink Tusker and bag the all-important three points in a match played at Machakos Stadium.

The win saw Gor Mahia move to second on the table with 29 points, only two points behind leaders Bandari.

Gor Mahia had earlier suffered a setback when goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch was sent off for handling the ball outside the penalty area as he sought to break off Tusker’s counter attack. George Odhiambo was the sacrificial lamb as Shaban Odhonji was brought in for his first appearance of the season.

Despite playing 65 minutes with only 10 men, Gor Mahia controlled most of the match and only wasteful finishing prevented them winning by a bigger margin.

Gor Mahia now prepare for a North Africa sojourn that will take them to Algiers and Cairo for crucial CAF Confederations Cup ties against NA Hussein Dey and Zamalek, two teams they have already beaten at home
