The impressive Francis Kahata and talismanic striker Jacques Tuyisenge scored a goal each late in the second half to punish the defensive NA Hussein Dey to secure a 2-0 victory for Gor Mahia to fire them to the top of Group D.
Gor Mahia began the match with an intensity that indicated they knew nothing short of a victory would increase their chances of qualifying for the quarter finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.
However, a rather defensive Hussein Dey side employed the dark arts of time wasting and resorted to all manner of antics to slow down the game and disrupt K’Ogalo’s game plan.
Gor Mahia kept their focus despite a number of missed chances and Francis Kahata finally struck gold when he latched on to a poor a clearance from a Batambuze cross to fire home and send the green army into ecstasy.
Shortly afterwards, Jacques Tuyisenge latched onto a through ball and sent the crowd wild with a powerful shot that found the back of the net for his fifth goal of this campaign and 9th continental goal for Gor Mahia.
Gor Mahia are currently leading group D with six points after round three matches.
