Gor Mahia held to a draw by Mathare United

Gor Mahia were held to a one all draw by host Mathare United in a league match played on Sunday 6th January 2019 at Moi International Sport Centre – Kasarani.

Gor Mahia who recently signed striker Dennis Oliech, Kenya’s all time top scorer, started off the match well with quick interplay between Tuyisenge and Kahata causing problems to Mathare’s back line. On the half hour mark Gor Mahia were awarded a penalty after keeper Allan Owiny hacked Lawrence Juma in the area.

Jacques Tuyisenge stepped up to take the spot-kick and making no mistake, he sent the keeper the wrong side to slot home on his left side. First half ended one nil in favor of Gor Mahia.

After the break, both sides came-back guns blazing with Gor Mahia looking for a goal to seal off the game while on the other end, Mathare United were keen on equalizer. In the 57th minute Mathare were the lucky side as a tackle on Kevin Kimani by Boniface Omondi earned the home side a penalty which Kimani slotted past Fredrick Odhiambo to equalize for his side.

The big moment of the match was when striker Dennis Oliech came off the bench to substitute Nicholas Kipkirui in the 70th minute to the delight of many fans who turned out to witness his return to active football. The match ended in a one all draw.
