Gor Mahia seeking redemption

Gor Mahia will be seeking to get their league season back on track when they face Kericho’s Zoo FC in their second league fixture tomorrow at Kasarani stadium as from 4pm.

Both teams began their 2018/19 season with losses and will be looking forward at getting their first league wins of the season. Gor Mahia have played Zoo four times in the league, winning three times and drawing only once.

Last season, Gor Mahia scored eight goals in their two meetings, bringing their league tally to 10 goals against Zoo. Incredibly, the 10 goals have been scored by nine different players with Jacques Tuyisenge being the only player to have scored more than once in this fixture.

Gor Mahia’s Nicholas Kipkirui will be facing his former team if selected. Kipkirui is Zoo’s all-time leading scorer in the league having scored 22 league goals in the two seasons he featured for Zoo. He opened his account for K’Ogalo last weekend – scoring the consolation goal in their 2-1 loss to Bandari.

The last time Gor Mahia failed to win their first two league games was in 2016 when they went five league games without a victory. One would however have to go back all the way to 1979 for the only time Gor Mahia lost their league opener match and went all the way clinch the title. Fans will be hoping this can be replicated this season.

Gor Mahia are currently on one of their worst league runs in recent times, winning only once in their last seven league games.
