Ahead of the new season that will be kicking off on Wednesday with a CAF match at Kasarani, SportPesa Premier League champions Gor Mahia have unveiled new players today in Nairobi.

A total of eight players were unveiled by the club’s chairman Ambrose Rachier in a move that is seen to strengthen the squad as they get ready to navigate a busy season crowded with league matches, CAF competitions as well as other local and regional tournaments.

The new players who were unveiled included – Kenneth Muguna formerly of Tirana, Geoffrey Ochieng from Western Stima, Pascal Ogweno from Kariobangi Sharks, Nicholas Kipkirui from Zoo Kericho, Castro Ogendo from Kenyatta University, Shafik Batambuze from Uganda, Erick Ombija from Coast Stima and Erissa Sekisambu from Uganda.

A number of players will be released while some will be sent out on loan and Rachier said the club will make it public after all players have been informed of what’s in store.

Commenting on the vacant head coach’s position, Rachier said the club has received a total of 53 applications from all over the world and they will be reviewing all applications this week and probably settle on one within the next week.

“We have received a total of 53 applications from all over the world for the position of head coach. We will be going through all we have on the table and settle on the most suitable coach to head the team. But in the meantime, Assistant coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno will handle the team on interim basis until that time we will name the new coach,” stated the chairman during the press conference.

The chairman further appealed to all football fans to turn up in large numbers for this week’s CAF Champions League group qualifier match against Nyasa Big Bullets of Malawi on Wednesday at Kasarani stadium as from 7pm.

“We are appealing to all football fans to come out in large numbers to support Gor Mahia against the Malawians on Wednesday. It’s a big match and massive support will help the team,” added the chairman.
