Gor Supersub Branch extends a helping hand on Mashujaa Day

Gor Mahia Supersub branch Kisumu held a CSR event on Mashujaa Day where they gave out playing boots to eight under 10 teams playing in the KYFA (Kisumu Youth Football Association) league.

The event that was held at Kisumu Sports Ground had the kids play a fun and highly entertaining knock-out matches and later receive the playing boots from the branch.

Most of the kids in these teams hail from Kisumu informal settlements and majority do lack adequate resources as they nurture their talents thus play barefoot.

It was a state that prompted one of Kisumu’s sports scribes, Felix Ochieng’, to come up with the #LetTheKidsPlay initiative where he sources for football boots from well wishers and distributes to the teams/players on a “most need” basis. It’s this initiative that moved Supersub branch, one of Kisumu’s most active branches to want to help in their own small way by pooling resources together and giving the kids a Mashujaa Day to remember.

The event had support come in from various quarters with Miss Kisumu 2016-2018 Sheila Akinyi, Gor Mahia’s organising secretary Judith Nyangi and a staunch Gor Mahia fan, Walter Gone all chipping in to help.A total of 50 boots were availed and distributed fairly to all the 8 teams in the KYFA under 10 league.

The teams were Powerboys Fc, Veterans Fc, Umoja Fc, Bayern, Coventry, Kreative, Kisumu Strikers and Soccer For Life.

“Our branch’s slogan is “More than a fan”.It perfectly sums up what we strive to be as a group. We take seriously our role as Gor Mahia Fc’s ambassadors and very aware of our social responsibilities so we always do the little we can to put a shine on the brand Gor Mahia” – George Odhiambo, Supersub branch chairman.
