Gor Mahia take on Sharks in Shield quarters

After being knocked out of 2018 CAF Confederations Cup competition on Wednesday in Algiers, Gor Mahia continue their pursuit of another piece of silverware this weekend.

Dylan Kerr’s side will be taking on Kariobangi Sharks in a quarter-final match of the Sportpesa Shield tournament tomorrow (Sunday) in Machakos.

Even after being declared league champions with six matches to spare, the tie will present another chance for K’Ogalo to decorate their season and add another title to their swelling trophy cabinet.

On their way to quarters of Shield tournament, Gor Mahia knocked out Posta Rangers in the round of 16 and Kerr will be banking his hopes on the players who were not involved in mid-week CAF clash.

Looking at the two sides, there have been two meetings this year and Gor Mahia pulled a double over their opponents in league fixtures.

Kevin Omondi and George Odhiambo are among a group of seven players who have scored six goals in the domestic FA competitions.

If either scores against Sharks tomorow, they will tie Peter Dawo’s record of seven goals in this competition while two goals for any of them will see them break this record.

Gor Mahia have not lost to Sharks in any competitive match – winning all four matches and scoring 11 goals in the process while conceding only three.

Striker Jacques Tuyisenge, who will not be available for this game, is the top scorer in matches between the two teams – scoring four goals in total.

This season, Gor Mahia have scored an incredible 13 goals in only 3 matches in this competition while conceding just two in the process.

A win for Gor Mahia in this tie will see them through to the semi-finals and help heal the painful wounds of their CAF Confederation Cup exit.

The match will kick off at 4.15pm.
