Tommorow, Gor Mahia Will be taking on SoNy in a league match in Kisumu for the 46th time in the league.

We take a look at what’s been hapoening bewtween the two teams over the past seasons.

Gor Mahia first played SoNy in the league on 8th May 1993 and Mike Otieno was in his element as he scored a hat-trick to blank the Sugar Millers 3-0.

This was followed by a 2-0 win in the reverse leg, courtesy of goals by Peter Dawo and Aggrey Obonyo.

Gor Mahia would then go on to win the next three fixtures before SoNy collected their first ever league points from K’Ogalo following a 1-1 draw in September 1995.

Gor Mahia’s unbeaten league streak would stretch to 16 games before finally succumbing to a 1-0 loss in June 2001.

Between 2001 to 2008, SoNy would go on to assert their dominance over Gor Mahia with Gor only managing one win in 10 league meetings over that period.

Gor Mahia are currently on a 14 game unbeaten league streak against SoNy and two more wins or draws will see them equal the record set in the 90s.

Summary:

Gor Mahia have played SoNy 45 times in the league, winning 23, losing 9 and drawing 13.

They have scored 48 goals in the process and only conceded 29.

Top scorers for Gor Mahia in this fixture are:

Mike Otieno, Meddie Kagere, Steve Okumu (3 goals)

William Oloo, Tom Ochieng ‘Malindi’, Allan Odhiambo, Ivan Anguyo, Baldin Ngwa (2 goals)

Players to have scored a brace in this fixture:

Steve Okumu and William Oloo

Going into the game, Gor Mahia are on an unbeaten 24 game league streak. This is their fifth longest unbeaten run in the league and only need to avoid defeat in two league games to equal the 27 game unbeaten run set in 1982.
