Focus shifts to league campaign as Gor Mahia eye another prize

After winning the SportPesa Super Cup tournament over the weekend, Gor Mahia have shifted their focus to the Kenyan Premier League with a fixture against Wazito tommorow in Kisumu after SportPesa Super Cup exploits.

K’Ogalo beat Tanzanian giants Simba SC 2-0 in Nakuru on Sunday to retain the title and book a friendly date with English Premier League side Everton at Goodison Park.

This will be the second  meeting between the two sides in a league tie after Wazito were promoted this season, first leg match  Gor got the better side of Wazito winning by a solitary goal.

The two sides come into the match on contrasting forms. While Gor Mahia are perched at the top of the table, the visitors are deep in the relegation zone at 17th position.

The unbeaten Gor Mahia have garnered 34 points from their last fourteen matches, double points of their opponents’ with the best goal difference in the league +17.

It will be an interesting duel as Wazito head coach Frank Ouna will be facing his former side (as assistant coach) – a team he helped to pull the title unbeaten in 2015.

As for Gor Mahia head coach Dylan Kerr, it will be another chance to open a six point gap at the summit over after second placed Mathare United (32 points).

“We have to go into tommorow’s game like it’s a game that we played on Sunday. The prize this time is three points and we have to keep the momentum,” Kerr told the official Gor Mahia website.

The last league match Gor Mahia played in Kisumu was against SoNy just before the Super Cup tournament where they collected maximum points.

The mid-week fixture in the lake side city, at Moi Stadium, will kick off at 3pm.
