The SportPesa Super Cup final match between Gor Mahia and Simba of Tanzania today will revive the old memories when the two sides took on each other in a competitive match many years ago.

It’s been 37 years since the two regional giants last met in the Cecafa Kagame Cup final at City Stadium where, Gor Mahia, the Super Cup holders, got the better side of their Tanzanian opponents by pulling a 1-0 win.

Considering both teams recent form, performance and stakes at the Super Cup, there is alot to play for. Save for the ticket to play the English Premier League side Everton at Goodison Park, their will be regional bragging rights as well as the Shs 3M in prize money on offer.

However, the 16 time Kenyan champions go into the match as favourites riding on their huge home support and territorial advantage.
But Simba are coming an impressive domestic league in Tanzania that saw them reclaim the title from their arch rivals Yanga. And with that in mind, today’s encounter in Nakuru presents a perfect clash of two top sides in East Africa.

It will be a duel between some of the most successful and decorated clubs in the region and that in itself is a reason enough to make this tie an interesting one.

Worth noting, is the performance of the two teams in this particular tournament where Gor Mahia knocked out JKU of Zanzibar with a 3-0 win before sending Singida home with a 2-0 win in semi-final.

Simba on the other hand beat both Kariobangi Sharks (3-2) and Kakamega Homeboyz (5-4) via post match penalties.

Gor Mahia are keen on winning and according to the head coach Dylan Kerr who will be facing his former team, the bravest side will pull it through.

“This match is all about the fight and the bravest team will win… we are home and very much ready for the fight. Our target is to win,” Kerr told the official Gor Mahia website.

The match will kick off at 3pm after a third place play-off fixture between Singida United and Kakamega Homeboyz at the same venue.
