Midfielder Wendo happy to get a nod from Everton coaches

On a chilly Thursday evening when Gor Mahia proved their worthiness by beating Singida United 2-0 in SportPesa Super Cup semi-final match, one player went home the happiest.

Midfielder Ernest Wendo’s solid performance couldn’t go unnoticed as he bagged man of the match award thanks to Everton academy coaches.

For his impressive show, the hard tackling defensive midfielder walked home Sh 50,000 richer.

“Surely, it’s a nice feeling getting the man of the match award. I never saw it coming… l was surprised not because it’s impossible but because I was chosen by the Everton coaches and legend Yakubu,” Wendo told the official Gor Mahia website in an exclusive interview.

ln appreciating every bit of his career progress which has seen him stand out in many matches, Wendo points out the quality of players around him, the technical bench, family as well as friends who have hugely played a role in his performance.

“The secret behind my performance and the good progress is that we have a good team – the players are good, technical bench and fan base that do push us in trainings and games… l can’t forget my family and friends who always encourage me. All in all, I thank God for everything because without Him, l am nothing,” he noted.

Wendo has been a key figure in Gor Mahia’s midfield and very instrumental in many matches.
