Gor Mahia had to snatch a later equalizer against Sofapaka in a nail biting league clash that ended 3-3 in Machakos today.
ln an entertaing match that saw Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr make eight changes to the squad that played against USM Alger on Wednesday in Caf Confederation Cup tie.
Gor Mahia was the better side controlling the game from the onset with terrific attempts that saw their early goal just after two minutes into the game being disallowed for an offside.
That was just a start of what Sofapaka would then go through as Gor Mahia launched attack after attack pinning their opponents in their own box.
Kagere was the master as he showed his finishing prowess with a cool tap-in in the 10th minute to register a goal that was clearly coming from the first whistle.
Goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch was reduced to a spectator as Sofapaka’s first attempt came on the 14th minute.
Things seemed to roll one way with Gor Mahia having the elephant share of possession knocking at their opponent’s goal minute after minute.
It didn’t take long as midfielder Bernard Ondieki made good of a free header to change the scoreline to 2-0 on the 33rd minute.
Worth noting, was the interesting role Kerr handed Boniface Omondi – as an attacking midfilder.
The player who is known to be a winger was a real problem to Sofapaka – launching attacks deep from the midfield with his electric pace and dribbling skills.
Even with the two goals lead, Gor Mahia showed appetite for more as the team went for half break with the scoreline reading 2 -0.
Sofapaka settled well in the game in second half and got their opener on the 53rd minute through Kepha Aswani.
Kerr made two changes with Joash Onyango coming on for Charlse Momanyi and Philemon Otieno taking up Ondieki’s place.
The outstanding player all through was midfilder Cercidy Okeyo who showed a class above his markers in the centerfield. He did control the midfilder and was so comfortable passing the ball around and winning balls as well.
A well balanced second half it was but Sofapaka would capitalize on the gaps to grab an equalizer on the 84th minute before taking the lead just three minutes later with just two minutes left.
If anyone thought it was over and that would mark a bad day for Gor, It wasn’t going to be their first league defeat in 2018 as Innocent Wafula grabbed an equalizer on the first minute of added time.
Three goals in just six minutes to make things 3-3 as Gor Mahia collect a point to continue with their unbeaten run.
