Kerr: My work at Gor Mahia is a ‘nightmare’

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]ith the scintillating form Gor Mahia is enjoying at the moment,  one would be right to think everything is fine and  the head coach Dylan Kerr is enjoying his time at the club.

Yes,  the club is leading the Kenyan Premier League table with a massive gap of nine points with a game in hand and the team is banging in goals match after match but the head coach is facing a serious headache or a problem he terms as a ‘happy problem’.

The Briton revealed his ‘happy problem’ to the official Gor Mahia website in reaction to a story published in one of the leading daily newspapers on Friday 15th September 2017 where striker Timothy Otieno raised a concern and said he is not happy warming the bench he needs more playing time.

“Players who don’t play or not in the squad on a match day for me is a ‘problem’ and l mean ‘a happy problem’. The problem is that each player wants to play and l am happy with that because it’s the stiff competition in the team,” said Kerr.

“My work is a nightmare at times because of players suspended or injured but the  characters I have in my team are  amazing and making a choice on who to give a starting role is a real headache…”

“Recently, and just today, one player (Timothy Otieno)  showed  his concern for not playing or getting enough play time and I like that he’s not happy but he knows my standards,” he added.

Kerr says he has 27 players and only 11 can play at any given time and with the competition in the team,  every player especially those on the bench must push and work hard to earn playing time.

“Players on the bench have to keep pushing so when they come in, they shine and those not in the squad have to work even harder to get into the team and keep those playing on their toes,” he noted.

Lately,  Otieno has been finding it hard to get a starting role  as main strikers in Meddie Kagere,  Jacques Tuyisenge and George Odhiambo who are enjoying some good form being considered first.
