Match preview: Gor Mahia Fc vs Karuturi Sports

After the International break, another weekend crowded with TPL events is here with us and our focus as usual is on Gor Mahia and may be other  ‘worthy’ title chasers.  City Stadium will be the place to be on Saturday to witness Gor Mahia sorting out their differences with Karuturi Sports.

Apart from the few Gor players who were involved in International duty, the rest of the team have been busy hitting the training ground with all the seriousness and concentration needed.

Looking at the past five league matches for both teams, a lot can be discussed considering their match form and consistency.

Gor Mahia – W W W W W

Karuturi Sports – L  L  W  L  D

From the above statistics, Gor Mahia collected the maximum 15 points as opposed to Karuturi who only managed a mere 4 out of a maximum 15 points. Well, as we are headed towards the culmination of the TPL season, these two teams are operating on opposite directions with Gor Mahia chasing the title while Karuturi just need one win out of their remaining four matches to escape relegation.

Karutri is currently ranked 12th on the TPL log with 30 points and the one coveted win will take them to the safe land on 33 points, 12 above 15th placed Oserian Fc who will need to battle much harder for survival.

But before Karuturi can think of the survival win, lets have a look at their remaining  fixtures. This Saturday they visit the capital against Gor Mahia, who seriously need the same 3 points to keep their title hopes alive.

They then host play host to Nairobi City Stars, another side battling to rise higher out of the relegation bracket, followed by another home match against title hopefuls Ulinzi Stars. Though the soldiers stand a much slimmer chance in the race, a third place finish would be a better chance.

Then a visit to the capital on the final league match day against Sofapaka. Though clearly out of the winners race, Sofapaka would fancy a high ranked finnish, precisely top 3 as targetd by new head coach Stewart Hall.

From the above recap we can’t tell where will Karuturi get the solitary win and I foresee a tough match lurking between Gor and Karuturi come Saturday.

We can remember Karuturi defeated Gor  Mahia in the 1st leg at their ‘Old Traford’ backyard but that was then. At the Gor Mahia was a completely different side, a team struggling to score goals and win matches. But the fortunes have since turned and the wins have come in bounty, a good run if i may call it. Talk of a blend in class and form, what a good run.

Every match is and we cant easily forget how Rangers Fc almost dented Gor Mahia’s title hopes, giving their all in the last league encounter though finally going down 2-1 at Nyayo stadium.

As the norm today, one game at a time, bring forth Karuturi Sports.
